The match pictures were repeated in round two instead of letting picsmiths so nuts, which is such lazy contest design. But that aside, this is exactly when we knew 1995 was completely screwed against 2001. 1995 was never in any real danger of losing this match, but it wasn't able to put 1987 away until the morning vote. This was basically an overnight stall once the board vote wore off, which is totally unacceptable for a contest entrant in 1995's position. You're the \#1 overall seed and coming off of Chrono Trigger looking like the strongest game on the site, and you follow it up with this? Get outta here.

1987 is great and all, but it's basically Zelda 1, Metroid 1, and Mega Man 1 against Chrono Trigger and a bunch of other heavy hitters. 52% in this match with the match itself being in doubt for a few hours is shameful. Picture fuckery can only be blamed so much for this. How much difference would better pictures have made? Probably not that much. 1995 was totally screwed long before the big duel and everyone knew it.
