Knuckles goes 8-1 in round 1 over the years and gets nothing but noble niners and near elites. I don't get it. And no, I am never letting this go until Knuckles wins one in round 2. Thanks for asking. I'm looking at some of these round 2 beatdowns these year just shaking my head. In the 2015 games contest, I made a list of 1v1 matches in round 2 or later where the winner broke 80%. These contests naturally have closer margins as you get later. It's just the normal way of things. For a character or game to break 70%, you need two things to happen unless we're talking about weird SFF stuff. One, you need an elite, near-elite, or upper midcarder in the winner's spot. Yoshi qualifies. And two, you need the other half of your fourpack to be abject garbage. I should note that Velvet got 61% in her round 1 match. So yeah this was just a forgettable beatdown en route to Yoshi getting back to where he always goes, and I love him for it. I'm one of those knuckleheads who always votes for Yoshi in those favorite Mario character polls. Love the dude. Always have. ## Safer777's Analysis When a character wins a Round 2 match and isn't a N9'er with above 70% you can't help but wonder how the opponent even reached Round 2! Of course Velvet would be realy weak duh. So Yoshi with above 70% for the 2nd time in this contest! Yoshi is so strong! But seriously I say that I can't judge Yoshi in this contest so far. He has beaten 2 super weak opponents and both of them were newcomers too. So there you go. Of course Yoshi is in Smash and he is recognizable from the Mario series so he has some power of course but how much? We shall see in the next round for sure. Oh and also Yoshi has always managed to reach at least Round 2 in all contests he has appeared. Nice for him. ## Tsunami's Analysis Yoshi is never going to be an elite, but he's never going to be weak, either. Just look at 2010, when he had the misfortune of running into a rally entry *after* it had already taken out a Noble Niner. Normally, once that happens, there's no hope for anything stopping it. Now, that happened to be the one rally entry that *was* stopped after it had done some damage, but nevertheless, Yoshi managed to stand up to Missingno like a champ, and it got him something like \#9 in the raw X-stats. Unfortunately for him, not even *those* numbers would give him a chance next round, because Pikachu was \#6 in the raw X-Stats that year.
