## Ulti's Analysis

- **Round:** East Division Final
- **Match \#:** 58
- **Match Date:** Tuesday, August 27th, 2002
- **Vote difference:** 5,820
- **GameFAQs Prediction:** Crono - 14.63% (2,452 brackets)

That prediction percentage is the second-lowest of the entire contest, bested only by the finals. Remember that.

The warning signs of Crono being capable of this were all over the place, from his *killing* of Dante to his slaughter of Lara Croft. There are defeats of one seeds, but a win of 70%+ on a 1 seed is insane. Pair this up with Snake's performance on Aeris, and you have the chance of a monumental upset. Remember, no one really knew what Crono was capable of coming into this contest. People just assumed that Dante and Croft sucked.

Everyone sure as hell noticed how strong Crono was when he started easy winning against Solid Snake, however. Remember, Solid Snake was one of Board 8's most favored characters. When Crono started the match on fire in the manner that he did, people were shocked. And despite how close the final results look, this match played out like an Alucard/Tails in that Snake was simply never in any contention of actually winning the match. It's a shame too, because 2002 was probably the year when Snake was at his best and had the best chance to win. (Spoilers, his best chance was 2013, and he absolutely wins that contest without the Draven rally because the final would have been Link, Snake, and Samus.)

As for Crono, he was like the 2004 Boston Red Sox. As the contest wore on, he grew stronger to the point where it would take an act of God to keep him down. Luckily for God, he had Mario in his back pocket come Crono's next match. If Cloud couldn't beat Mario, there was no way that Crono would be able to do it. Crono had a nice run in making it to the Final Four, but there was little chance of him doing much else. Mario's pass to the finals was all but secured as was, but without Solid Snake to worry about, Mario could start thinking of how to win the last match in this contest.
